Weap or Reap, it's Your Choice

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

— (Jeremiah 29:11-14 KJV)

Like most people these days, I spend a fair amount of time on social media.  I like to see what people are up to and also to share in their life experiences.  Births, deaths, ups, downs, praise and tears, joys, and pains.  The list is endless, but their seems to be a growing culture of discontent, and lashing out.  It almost seems like social media has been hijacked and used for people to voice their unhappiness with everyone in their lives.  Things that used to be talked about in private, are now shouted to the world.  Social media makes it possible for us to "know the thoughts" of others like never before.  To be honest, it can be depressing.  There are a lot of hurting people out there dying for people to pay attention to them.  To think about them.

I'm here to tell you, God knows your thoughts, and he thinks about you all the time.  In your good times, and your bad.  The difference between God and man is profound.  God always thinks of you in a good way.  He has a plan for you and it is for you to prosper.  Not financially, but spiritually and emotionally.  Sure God can help you prosper financially, but his main concern is your present peace, and future home.  Heaven with him.

Consider the prophet Jeremiah.  He had a 40 year ministry and the people never would repent.  He was known as the "weeping prophet".  He loved the people and was doing God's will.  He was living out God's plan for him.  Yet he was very discouraged.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
— (Jeremiah 1:5 KJV)

Jeremiah knew God had a plan for him.  No matter how tough times got for him, he knew God's plan.  He trusted in God to use him for his glory.  He didn't see much fruit from his ministry over the 40 years, but he never gave up.  He kept his hands to the plow, trusted God, and continued to preach to the people.  We can learn much from jeremiah.

I read every day, every night, day in, day out about men, women, and children unhappy with someone in their life.  This man let me down, this woman is crazy, these kids are out of control, and the worst one of them all is the self loathing. People unhappy with themselves.  People are hurting.  People are searching, People are crying out for help.  Who is listening? Who cares?

God cares. Verse 11 reads "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."  Or my prefered translation "a future and a hope".  There is hope, if you call upon his name.  Jesus is our hope.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
— (1 Peter 1:3-4 KJV)

Maybe you're suffering financial hardships, relation problems, depression, addictions, or just feel defeated.  You need to know, there is hope in Christ.  What he has to offer is far superior than what the world has to offer.  He never lets you down, never turn his back on you, always pays attention, and loves you in such a way, that the love of man pales in comparison.  I know, I was there.

One day I felt so defeated, so depressed, so inferior and such a failure, I felt I had no other hope but to cry out to God.  If you feel anything remotely similar, all you have to do is call on his name in faith.  You have nothing to loose, and eternity to gain.  Maybe you think you have all the answers, but I assure you, you don't.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
— (Proverbs 16:25 KJV)
Jesus is the living hope.
