Open The Floodgates

James 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

This is one of the scriptures that has been easy for me to remember. I read it often, and can apply it daily. You see, Gods WORD and PRAYER are the two offensive weapons we are given when we put on the Armor of GOD. It’s not enough to sit back and wait for the enemy to attack, protected by our armor. We as soldiers in the Lords army, must go on the offensive. In doing so, we are fulfilling our part in the great commission.

Mathew 28:19-20
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you."

You see, it’s been weighing heavy on my heart, that our Lord has not commissioned us to make converts of men, but Disciples. How can we disciple men and fulfill our part in this Spiritual war, if we do not;

“receive with meekness the engrafted word”
I have been very fortunate in my walk, that God has removed many of the desires of my prior life, that would have normally been occupying my time, and my thoughts.

David tells us;

Psalm 37:4
"Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

I see now, after surrendering to Him last year (2002), that God hasn't given me what I desired, rather He has given me the Desire

Phillipians 3:10

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection"

Brothers, it’s simple, don't make it complicated, our Lord is beyond comprehension, but Jesus tells us how simple it is;

Matthew 18:3
"Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven"

He tells us to come as a child to Him in faith.

We can be productive soldiers in the Lords army, if we;

James 1:21

“lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness”

Television, magazines, newspapers, talk-radio, self-help books, secular music, or anything that we fill our eyes and ears with, that fog up our thoughts. I still enjoy many of these things, but I know that when I pick up Gods Word, I have trouble concentrating and remembering. So when I prayed for wisdom and discernment, God didn't install it in me, as he did Solomon, rather He removed the desire of these other things. Then I was able to read and remember. Thus He;

Jesus eluded to this in John’s Gospel;

John 7:37
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water".

I find it interesting that He stood and cried. It must have been important for Him to do this. He has given us His Word;

  • He wants us to grow
  • He has commissioned us to disciple
  • He has warned us what to avoid, the “filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness”, the result,  we can then

“receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls”

Brothers, I exhort you to diligently seek His face unceasingly. Our redemption draws nigh. Be a good and active soldier and lets;

God Bless
