Be an Example

Today's Christian man finds himself fighting a constant war with the flesh and the world.  With our ability to access and be accessed, we are bombarded with choices unlike any other generation.  It's those choices which define us as men.  If we want to be men of character, we need to make good choices.  in order to make good choices, we need good guidance.  We can get it from God's Word and make good choices, or we can get it from the world, and make bad choices.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
— Romans 12:1-2

One of the problems the church faces today is the influence of the Non-Christian world view.  It has infiltrated and permeated many of the churches today.  No longer do pastors believe in the inerrancy of scripture, traditional marriage, or even man's need to be born again.  To often a pastor seeks to please man, and not God.  In doing so, he creates an environment for men to miss the need for salvation altogether.  That is a tragedy in and of itself, but another less obvious effect is the "sissification of men".  They create men who do not know how to lead, and are absent of any conviction because they have had their "itching ears" scratched.  Pastors have failed to heed Paul's exhortation he gave to Timothy.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
— 2 Timothy 4:2-4

In todays "seeker friendly" churches, men are being ripped off.  They are not hearing the pure, unadulterated "Word of God".  Pastors are saying what the people want to hear, rather than what they need to hear.  We all want to hear about the blessings, but who really wants to get up at 7am and go to church to be reproved and rebuked?  Not many, but neither do we like to go to a doctor and be poked and prodded, but we go because we need to be healed.

Jesus illustrated this in Mark when he was rebuked for eating with sinners.  His answer to them showed their hypocrisy.  They saw themselves as having no need for a savior, and the people whom Jesus ate with saw their need for a savior.

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
— Mark 2:16-17

Today, too many men enter church with no idea they need a savior.  They go because their wife takes them or they think their kids need God, but they themselves do not.  Their homes are falling apart, their marriages are broken, their finances are a mess, and most importantly, their soul is condemned and they don't even know it.  They are dead in their sins, yet they have no idea because they are hearing a watered down version of Christianity.

Men need to wake up and be men.  They don't need a pep talk or a rally sermon, they need the Word of God preached in Love and truth.  It will not return void, and the Holy Spirit will draw them near.  Souls will be saved, homes will be restored, marriages will be healed, and Godly children will be raised.  The cycle of godlessness can be broken.  One man at a time.
