2 CORINTHIANS 1:3-4
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the GOD of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of GOD."
As children of God, we know that trouble lies ahead, at each stage of our Christian walk. How we deal with it, is the deciding factor on how we overcome it. Our LORD told us;
“In the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”
You see, that’s the key, HE has overcome the world. It’s not by our effort that we can overcome. Christ has done it all. We move around this earth, in this vessel we call a body, and continually try to, “overcome”. If we have our eyes fixed on our earthly condition, we loose site of our eternal position.
We are “in Christ”, and we know;
“we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us”.
This truth has the potential to yield abundant fruit for the kingdom. It’s this truth, that keeps an obedient, and dependant child of GOD, focused on the throne of Grace. We as children who trust in the one true living GOD, waste valuable time when we; worry, fret, despair, doubt, and deny.
When we are in any of these states, we have our eyes on;
- Our situation, and not on our savior
- On our condition, and not on Christ
- On the temporal, and not the eternal
- We walk by Sight, and not the Spirit
- We behave as children, without a Father
Paul reminded the Corinthian church, it is GOD who comforts or consoles us in our tribulation. In doing so, he was able to effect a change in them, which was manifested in an outward showing of comfort to those who were facing their own tribulation.
In our community, we have had the occasion to witness the wrath of man fall on us and our neighbors. The fire which devastated our community brought out the best in people. We have also had the privilege to witness God’s hand in loving action, as HE moved through his children, and those yet to experience a relationship with their creator.
As I drove away from my home and the flames, I was comforted by the LORD. You see, when the fire first broke out, I joined hands with my mother and daughter to pray. My wife was on the other side of the flames at the women’s retreat, so we prayed for them. Once our tribulation was placed on the alter, GOD began to send help in the form of HIS children. One of whom is never in the area on a Saturday, but was 2 blocks away. In God’s providence, he was positioned in a place that he could be used. We were able to get all of the essentials out, and send my family far from harms way. All along, I rested in God’s promise, Mathew 28:20 “I am with you always”. If I were focused on my condition, I couldn’t help any of HIS children, or point anyone to HIS throne. To be used of GOD is a privilege, one I am not willing to surrender.
Allow GOD to be your comfort, that you may be able to comfort others. As for the world; they are watching us during this trying time. I will leave you with this;
2 Corinthians 3:2-3
“you are an epistle……… known and read of men: Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ….. written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living GOD; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.”
